How to Jump Start a GMC T Series
Steps from the 2010 GMC T Series owner's manual.
- Check that the other vehicle has a 12-volt battery system with a negative ground.
- Park the vehicles close enough for the cables to reach, but not touching each other.
- Set the parking brake on both vehicles, with automatic in P (PARK) or manual in N (Neutral).
- Connect the other end of the negative (−) cable at least 18 inches (45 cm) from the dead battery, away from moving engine parts.
- Start the vehicle with the good batteries and let the engine run for a while, using high idle if equipped.
- Try to start the vehicle with the dead batteries.
- To remove the cables, disconnect the negative (−) cable from the formerly dead vehicle first, then the good vehicle, then the red positive (+) cable from the good vehicle, then the other vehicle.
- Pages provided do not show the middle connection steps (3 to 8) for the first cable connections.
- If it will not start after a few tries, it probably needs service.
- Connecting or removing cables in the wrong order can cause shorting and damage not covered by warranty.
