How to Jump Start a Ford Focus
Steps from the 2018 Ford Focus owner's manual.
- Connect one end of the positive (+) jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery.
- Connect the other end of the positive (+) cable to the positive (+) terminal of the assisting battery.
- Connect the negative (-) cable to the negative (-) terminal of the assisting battery.
- Make the last connection of the negative (-) cable to an exposed metal part of the stalled engine, or to the ground connection point if available.
- Start the booster vehicle's engine and keep engine speed between 2000 and 3000 rpm.
- Start the disabled vehicle, then run both engines for three more minutes before removing the cables in reverse order.
- Do not connect the end of the second cable to the negative (-) terminal of the battery to be jumped; a spark may cause an explosion of battery gases.
- After removing the cables, let the vehicle idle for several minutes so the battery can recharge.
