How to Jump Start a MINI Hardtop 4 Door
Steps from the 2025 MINI Hardtop 4 Door owner's manual.
- Check that the other vehicle's battery is 12 volts, switch off its engine, and turn off power consumers in both vehicles.
- Open the covers of the jump-start terminals in the engine compartment.
- Connect one clamp of the positive cable to the positive terminal of the assisting vehicle, and the other to the positive terminal of the vehicle being started.
- Connect one clamp of the negative cable to the negative terminal or engine/body ground of the assisting vehicle.
- Connect the second negative clamp to the negative terminal or engine/body ground of the vehicle being started.
- Start the donor engine and let it run several minutes at increased idle, then start the other engine as usual.
- Let both engines run for several minutes, then remove the cables in reverse order.
- Use only jumper cables with fully insulated clamp handles, and make sure the vehicles do not touch each other.
- If the first start fails, wait a few minutes before trying again; with a diesel donor engine let it run approx. 10 minutes.
- Never use spray fluids to start the engine.
