Brake fluid type by vehicle: DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 4 LV, from the owner’s manual

By Car Spec Sheet · Updated Oct 18, 2026 · Every example is checked against the owner's manual page it links to. How we work

The brake fluid grade each vehicle’s owner’s manual calls for, from the 6 manuals on this site that list it. Each entry links to the vehicle’s brake fluid page, which quotes the manual and cites the page.

Use the grade your manual names. DOT 3 and DOT 4 are glycol-based and can be mixed in a pinch, but DOT 5 (silicone) must never be mixed with them. Low-viscosity (LV) fluids matter for some stability-control systems.
