Which battery fits my key fob?

Key fob batteries aren’t universal. The same model year can use different batteries for different key types, and coin cells that look alike are different sizes.

One car, two batteries

The 2017 Honda Civic Sedan manual lists a CR1620 for the remote key (the key with buttons on the head) and a CR2032 for the smart entry remote (the push-button-start fob). Check which key you have before buying.

What the numbers mean

Lithium coin cells are named by size: the first two digits are the diameter in millimetres and the last two the thickness in tenths of a millimetre.

Battery Diameter Thickness
CR2032 20 mm 3.2 mm
CR1620 16 mm 2.0 mm
CR1616 16 mm 1.6 mm

A CR2032 won’t fit where a CR1620 goes, and a thinner cell like the CR1616 (used in the 2006 Civic Sedan remote) may not make good contact in a CR1620 slot. Use the type your manual lists.
